All you need to know about our tours and freeride offer
Do I need a ski pass for freeride or backcountry guiding?
Generally, yes. Most of our premier freeride zones in resorts like Davos, St. Moritz, and Laax are "lift-accessed" (Sidecountry), meaning we use the lift system to gain altitude before dropping into the powder. Therefore, a valid lift ticket is required. However, for pure ski touring or splitboarding itineraries where we start climbing directly from the valley floor or a pass road, a ticket may not be necessary. Your guide will review the specific route plan with you beforehand so you buy exactly what you need.
Do I need previous off-piste experience?
Not at all. We tailor the day entirely to your skill level. If you are a first-time freerider, we start on gentle, open slopes to teach you powder technique and safety fundamentals. For expert riders, we head straight for steep couloirs and technical high-alpine lines. Our goal is to progress your skills safely, regardless of your starting point.
Will we have to hike or walk much?
It depends on the type of day you book. For Freeride bookings, we prioritize lift-accessed terrain to maximize your downhill time, usually involving only short walks to reach hidden stashes. For Ski Touring & Splitboarding bookings, hiking uphill with skins is the core part of the adventure. We always adjust the physical exertion level to match your fitness and preferences.
What specific equipment do I need?
You will need wide skis or a snowboard suited for deep snow, along with the mandatory avalanche safety trio: Transceiver (Beacon), Shovel, and Probe. We also highly recommend an avalanche airbag backpack. If you do not own this specialized gear, let us know in advance—we can arrange high-quality rentals for you through our local partners.
Do you only offer off-piste freeriding?
No. We also specialize in on-piste Resort Discovery Tours (Ski Safaris). If you prefer groomed slopes, we can guide you on a curated tour across vast interconnected areas like the Silvretta Arena (Ischgl/Samnaun) or Arosa-Lenzerheide. These days focus on covering distance, enjoying the scenery, and finding the best mountain restaurants, rather than hunting for powder.
How big are the groups?
Safety is our absolute priority in the backcountry. For this reason, we strictly limit off-piste group sizes to a maximum of 6 participants per guide. This ratio ensures we can manage risk effectively, move efficiently through complex terrain, and provide individual coaching. For larger groups, we will assign multiple guides.
Do you offer avalanche safety training?
Yes. We strongly believe that safety skills must be practiced every season, not just learned once. We offer a dedicated Annual Avalanche Safety Refresher (typically booked at the start of the season). This intensive clinic moves beyond basic skiing to focus on snowpack analysis, effective route planning, and realistic single/multi-victim rescue drills using beacons, probes, and shovels. It is the perfect way to sharpen your instincts and muscle memory before heading into the big mountains.
